Parents Guide to Help Their Child Learn How to Read


Parents’ lap is the first educational institute of a child and by the time you start teaching, and indulge him in reading becomes the first lesson for him, which lasts forever for his life. Reading the poems and stories aloud from the book makes the text more interesting and fun-loving that encourages the child to read himself.

Speak to your child

Speaking and interacting with your child will make him more vigilant and alert, because listening and reading are both intrinsic skills. The child can absorb in listening and reading. So to make him a better reader, you have to make him a better listener first. Your child can be prepared to read the stories from the books just after the verbal stories he hears from his parents. The parents may narrate family stories about weddings, picnics, general gatherings etc.

Eliminate the boring element from the reading

You may create a healthy environment for your children by talking about books with your spouse and child. If you talk about movies, games and sports all the time, your child will learn the same. So talk about reading books and appreciate some of the books in front of your children.

Pay more attention when child is reading

Children need more attention than elders, when they think they are doing something unique and unachievable. Reading is also something creative at this small age and they should be paid the attention they deserve. The parents shall pay close attention and repeat the words slowly with them to encourage their building habits of reading.

Give a positive response to their readings

The parents may praise, the reading efforts of their children, even if they are making a lot of mistakes. The child may learn to read the books unhesitatingly as his parents are proud of it. The parents may be flexible and patient enough in pushing their child into a reading activity.
